Postpartum Belt Support (maternity support belt)

postpartum support beltA brief overview of postpartum belts: Congratulations ladies on bringing a beautiful newborn into the world. It’s been a long several months and now you’re finally home with baby. Much of the attention has turned from the mother-to-be to your precious infant.

However, you need almost as much attention as your baby in the first few weeks back home. This applies to your mental and physical well-being. Your hormones are trying to adjust to life before pregnancy and your body is physically tired and changed.

Obviously the abdomen is one of the areas of greatest change and stress as your baby developed in the womb. The constant pressure and expansion causes stretching and pain that begins to heal after birth.

Your doctor has probably already told you to avoid lifting heavy objects. We all know that just getting out of bed after delivery is painful and trying on our bodies. Nevermind lifting heavy objects! The sore muscles and pain from surgery (for those who had C-Sections) are long lasting.

I’ve found that using a postpartum belt or girdle gave me the extra support I needed for my abdominal region. If you’ve seen people weight lifting or body building, you’ve probably noticed that they wear large leather support belts around their waist. This prevents them from straining muscles and developing hernias as they exert themselves to lift heavy loads. Well, giving birth is not much different than lifting heavy weights.

Today’s postpartum belt (maternity support belt) is comfortable, affordable and easy to hide under regular clothing. They come in various sizes, shapes and designs. I would highly recommend looking into these products. It will make things easier for you during your recovery. Some common manufacturers of maternity belts include Motherhood Maternity and Belly Bandit.

Don’t forget to take care of your mental health as well. Postpartum depression is common, normal and treatable. It needs to be taken seriously for the health of you and your baby. Find local postpartum support groups and learn more about postpartum depression here. If you’re interested in postpartum fitness then we recommend that you check out BeFit-Mom.

On a similar note, we would also like to let you know to keep a look out for our maternity stockings category coming soon. Maternity stockings, or compression stockings, can help relieve leg pain and swelling often associated with pregnancy. They look just like regular stockings but have very different functionality.

Maternity stockings are specialized hosiery that provides counter-pressure to the arteries in your legs to help blood flow and fluids from “pooling” in your legs. This is what causes swollen ankles and that feeling of having “fat legs” during pregnancy. Don’t assume that regular stockings will provide similar benefits because they are not specifically designed for expecting moms. Compression stockings are rated by the amount of support that they offer and are great for preventing or lessening the degree of vericose veins. Learn more here.

On another interesting note, we hope to soon be offering a postpartum support belt that is effective, yet more affordable than many of the products currently out in the market. Stay tuned for more details.
